Himalayan Institute Neti Pot

Anyone who suffers from painful sinus or allergy problems will find relief by using the Neti pot.

For thousands of years this method of cleansing the nasal passages has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for the express purpose of relieving these conditions.

And although it tends to take the Western World a long time to catch on to ancient remedies, recent clinical studies show that nasal irrigation is an effective method to improve the symptoms of patients who suffer from frequent sinusitis.

Using the Himalayan Institute Original Neti Pot is a natural and effective way to cleanse, refresh and to protect the nasal passages.

The Neti Pot is simple and easy to use:

  1. Prepare the saline solution: mix 1/4 teaspoon of Neti Pot Salt or non-iodized salt with 8 ounces of warm water.
  2. Turn your head to one side over the sink.
  3. Gently insert the spout in the upper nostril. Raise the Neti Pot so the saline solution flows out the lower nostril.
  4. Repeat on the other side.

There are illustrated instructions included so that you can check that you are doing this correctly. There is also a link to a free online video demonstration.

CB107730Paula and I have birthdays that are two days (and many years) apart on the 14th and 16th of May so today we went and had our customary treats, a back, neck and shoulder massage and facial.

Having a massage always reminds me of when we were in Thailand last year. We stayed in the absolutely gorgeous Novatel Hotel in Siam Square, and we booked into the day spa in the hotel, for a body massage.

I am on the cuddly side so not too fussed about exposing myself, however, Paula assured me the I wouldn’t have to strip. So feeling assured of this I entered the dimly lit room that smelled so beautiful with its aromatherapy candles.

The very nice lady, pointed to something on the bed and left me to get organised. I picked up the item on the bed and turned it over a few times and finally reached the conclusion – this was not to be worn on the head, it was a tiny pair of paper panties.

So after the full impact of what I was about to do, sunk in, I stripped and donned the ever so small pants and got under the covers on the massage table. Ha, who was I kidding.

All went well at the start as we began with the facial. Then in came a new masseuse and she proceeded to massage back, shoulders and arms. Hmmmmm, so relaxing and then off come the covers and I am on my back totally exposed except for the ever so tiny pants. I can really feel the glow from my face, however, the masseuse was very professional and finally nerves and embarrassment passed. I just kept thinking ‘I am sure this isn’t the worst she has ever seen’

Well when it was all over and I emerged feeling totally relaxed, I spotted Paula emerging from her cubicle. She looked very sheepish and we both burst out laughing.

Believe me ladies, if you haven’t ever had a massage because your a bit on the big side, do yourself a favour, get over it and go and have one, you will find that your masseuse will be professional and will do everything possible to put you at ease.

The feeling after is positively euphoric.

the-chakra-system-posterThis brings us  to the energy flows of the body.    The best way to use crystals is in conjunction with your own energy ‘points’.  These are known as chakras.  The word Chakra is Sanskrit for ‘wheel’ because each of the seven main chakras is an energy point that spins to carry and transfer energy.  If the flow of energies is blocked because of negative emotional issues such as stress, anxiety or anger they can cause physical illness.

Each chakra has a colour associated with it.  To clean, open and activate these energy points you can wear a chakra necklace or bracelet which includes crystals in each of the seven chakra colors.  Alternatively, you can perform a ‘chakra layout’.

How to perform the energizing Chakra Layout

You will need 7 crystals that correspond to the chakra colors.  You can buy complete ‘chakra sets’ or choose individual crystals.  There is a list below to help you choose.  You may feel more drawn to one than another and if so, go with that one.

You will be laying down on the floor for this exercise.  First, make sure that you will not be disturbed so take the phone off the hook!  Gather your seven crystals and lay them on the floor in sequence next to where you will lie.  Then lay down and place each stone on its’ associated chakra point on your body.  Simply lie quietly and try to relax.  Do this for at least several minutes.

Using Crystals to Energize Your Life

rose-quartz-puff-heart-worry-healing-stoneMany ‘alternative’ therapies work on the belief that it is necessary to allow the energies of the body to flow freely in order to attain health, wellbeing and happiness.  Illnesses and stress can cause blockages, which prevent the energy flowing.  The prevention of the energy flow exacerbates the illness or stress and so it becomes a downward spiral that is difficult to escape from.  So treatment is based on re-establishing that flow.  This is the basis for acupuncture, reiki, feng shui and crystal healing.

Isn’t it just a ‘New Age’ thing?

Not at all.  In fact, there are over 200 mentions of the positive use of crystals in the Bible!  In Exodus, Aaron (Moses’ brother) was told by God to make a breast-plate from specific crystals which would give him both protection and wisdom.

Crystals have been used by ancient civilizations for centuries and right up to today, for

  • Health
  • Protection
  • Magic
  • Rituals
  • Offerings
  • Currency
  • Divination and scrying (forseeing the future)
  • Bringing luck
  • Precious gifts
  • Silicon chips for computers
  • Clocks and watches powered by quartz crystals

Where the word comes from…

The name ‘crystal’ is derived from the Greek ‘Krysos’ which means ‘ice cold’.  Crystals were believed to be a form of ice that was so cold it never melted.  It wasn’t until the late 1700′s that it became understood that crystals grew, layer by layer.

What are they?

Crystals began growing when the Earth was beginning to form.  The continual heating up and cooling down helped to form the amazing crystals that we see today.  Now that crystal growth is understood, they are also ‘grown’ commercially.

Most crystals are made from silicon and oxygen.  The core of the Earth is primarily made from silicon.  Silicon combined with oxygen makes silicon dioxide, more commonly known as quartz.  This is the basis for all crystals.  It is the inclusion of other elements during the growth that gives rise to the different types of crystals.

How do they work?

It has been scientifically proven that all matter is made from energy.  Every object, whether it’s a human being, a table, a lake or even a single grain of sand has some form of energy both inside it and around it.  Energy resonates with a specific vibration and everything that contains energy has its’ own vibration.

drop-point-amethyst-pendantAs mentioned at the beginning of this article, this has been realized for centuries and the ancients knew that for the human body to function well, this vibration has to be correctly ‘tuned’.  Just think of your body as a radio.  When it is correctly tuned in, the sound is clear and easy to understand.  If it’s not, the sound is muffled and indistinct.  When you’re well, your body is ‘in tune’ and it’s out of tune when you’re ill or stressed.

Unlike our bodies, crystals have a set formation so their vibration doesn’t alter.  Their resonance is constant and so they are wonderful tools to help bring the bodies energies back into tune.

Crystals work on a very subtle level so it’s not unusual to feel nothing when you first start working with them.  Some people are more naturally ‘attuned’ than others but just know that the crystal will be working, even if it takes some time for you to feel the benefits.

How do I use them?

If you are new to crystals, the easiest ways are to place them in your home, at work or wear them as pieces of jewelry.
